Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question? Take a look and see if it has been answered! Please submit any additional questions through our contact page or give us a call.

HOW DO I RECEIVE CAC SERVICES?

Referrals for CAC services generate through local law enforcement, MDHHS, or tribal CPS. If you do not have an open case, please report the abuse to either entity or contact our facility for further instruction.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY CHILD FOR THE INTERVIEW

We actually ask that you don't! It is helpful to inform your child that a safe person wishes to talk to them about the allegations (if the child knows about them). You may reassure your child and give them permission to talk freely, however, it is important to not rehearse with your child or tell them what to say. While you may have good intentions, it is important to not ask your child about what happened. These guidelines are in place to ensure the accuracy and usefulness of your child's interview.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY CHILD'S INTERVIEW?

The team will meet with you after after the interview to discuss next steps going forward. The family advocate will follow up with you to ensure that referrals can be made to mental health services, medical providers, etc.

HOW MUCH DO CAC SERVICES COST?

CAC services are provided free of charge to families.

WHO DOES THE CAC SERVE?

Mashkawizii CAC provides services to children and families impacted by abuse in Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac counties.

DO I HAVE TO BE TRIBAL TO RECIEVE CAC SERVICES?
